Pebble adds localization support for French, German and Spanish

The Pebble team has today announced that new localization support, silently included in the recent firmware version 2.8 for the company's range of smartwatches, has been enabled. This functionality introduces localization support for French, German and Spanish on Pebble smartwatches. Should you reside in one of the affected regions, it's now possible to have content displayed in one of three new supported languages, not limited to just notifications.

As well as the Pebble itself, the official app has also received similar treatment in an update released today. Previously English-only, those using the iOS app will see the language settings for the app reflect the OS configuration. There's nothing to change within the app itself. If you're phone is set to German, the Pebble app will display content in your native language. Just like the Pebble, this is currently limited to English, French, German and Spanish.

When the Pebble app detects a watch with supported firmware that has not yet been offered the option to select a language setting, a pop-up alert will display. Future changes to the watch language can be found in the Pebble app menu Settings » Language Settings.

The Pebble team also called on developers to begin translating apps. Here are some other improvements included in the iOS Pebble app 2.6 release:

  • Support for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus screen sizes. The Pebble app now optimizes its display interface when installed on Apple's latest smartphones.

  • iOS 7 or above required. This version of the Pebble iOS app requires an Apple device running iOS 7 or higher. It's still possible to download a compatible Pebble app from the store.

  • Adds the latest JavaScript Pebble apps available for iOS users in the Pebble appstore.

  • Bug fixes and stability improvements.
