Just yesterday, we found FCC filings for a new Anker PowerWave wireless charging pad that mentioned an unannounced second generation of Echo Buds with wireless charging right in the name. That charger has since leaked in full in a Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) listing spotted by GizmoChina.
The now-pulled WPC listing included the render of the product at the top of this post that gives us a few hints about what the Echo Buds’ case might look like and some of the features of the pad. The charger appears to have an oblong indentation for the Echo Buds’ wireless charging case to rest in, indicating the case will have a much different shape than more rectangular one used with the original Echo Buds. (We observed a similar oblong shape in a...
Microsoft has been slowly weaning users off its legacy Internet Explorer browser for a very long time, recently going so far as to use a forced Windows update to install its new Chromium Edge browser on your Windows PC. But next month, Microsoft’s planning to force your computer to automatically launch some 1,156 websites in Edge, too — if you try to launch an “incompatible” site in IE.
That’s the report from ZDNet, which also recorded a video showing how it works:
There’s a lot of big-name sites on the automatically-launch-in-Edge list, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, a number of Google products, Microsoft Teams, and quite a few banks and other big brands.
According to a Microsoft FAQ, the change will roll out in...
Peanuts fans are not happy about Apple holding its specials.
Reported by MacRumors, a petition to get Peanuts specials back on broadcast television has already passed 100,000 signatures. The specials, which have historically aired on public television channels, were recently revealed as Apple TV+ exclusives.
All of the Peanuts specials, including It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, and A Charlie Brown Christmas, are currently set to air exclusively on Apple TV+ this year. Apple had signed a deal with Wildbrain, the company behind the Peanuts franchise, to bring all of its specials, as well as new original series, to the streaming platform.
The petition is asking for Apple and WIldbrain to make the specials available on public television once again, as many say they will be unable to watch the specials if they remain exclusively on Apple TV+.
For over 50 years, we have celebrated the holidays with the airings of the Peanuts holiday specials on TV - first on CBS, then on ABC. To our shock and dismay, last night it was announced that Apple had swiped the football from us and claimed the specials for their Apple TV platform, leaving us devoted fans who have grown up with Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang in the dark, unable to watch.
It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown has already debuted on Apple TV+ for paying subscribers, but Apple has said that the special will be available to stream for free between October 30 through November 1.
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving will premiere on November 18, but also be available for free between November 25 and 27. In a similar fashion, A Charlie Brown Christmas will debut on December 4 but be available to stream for free between December 11 and December 13.
It is good that Apple is making these specials free for a limited time, but the timing is also making Peanuts fans unhappy. Many normally watch A Charlie Brown Christmas on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, but the special will only be free to stream more than a week beforehand.
In addition, streaming will still require viewers to have an Apple TV+ compatible device. The streaming service is currently available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV, as well as some smart televisions and streaming sticks. While this covers many, there are still those that could miss out on the specials altogether if they do not have one of these devices.
100% exclusive content for the price of a cup of coffee.
With TV+, you can watch well-produced, big-budget TV shows from famed directors, and starring award-winning actors and actresses across all your Apple devices and with up to six members of your Family Sharing group.
iOS 14 is now the most installed version of iOS.
Reported by MacRumors, iOS 14 has now surpassed iOS 13 as the most installed version of iOS. According to data from Mixpanel, iOS 14 is now installed on 46.40% of Apple devices, whereas iOS 13 is installed on 46.35% of them.
The new version of iOS is only five weeks old but has fallen behind iOS 13 in terms of how fast the new version was adopted by users. According to the report, iOS 13 had already been installed on half of devices by October 16, 2019, so it seems that iOS 14 may lag behind by as much as a couple of weeks.
Adoption of iOS 14 is about on pace with adoption of iOS 13, but it's a little bit behind. iOS 13 was installed on 50 percent of all devices on October 16, 2019, with iOS 14 taking longer to hit that exact target.
Mixpanel also notes that 7.25% of Apple devices are still running an older version of iOS. Apple has not yet officially announced that its newest version of iOS has become its most installed version.
It is anyone's guess as to why iOS 14 is lagging behind iOS 13 in terms of adoption. The newest version of iOS is one of the biggest jumps in user experience yet with home screen widgets, the App Library, and more.
