Get ready, trainers!
Pokémon Go's latest event, Throwback Challenge 2020, is here, and it's going to be a busy month for all you Pokémon Trainers! Each week will feature new Timed Research, and we here at iMore have all the details for week three — Hoenn Timed Research!
Throwback Challenges are kind of like Special Research, only with the added difficulty of being timed. When you log in during a Throwback Challenge week, you will gain the Timed Research line in your Today View. From there, you can complete the research over a set period of time, after which anything left incomplete will disappear.
Each week in May 2020 will feature a different Timed Research line, and completing them all will unlock an additional line during the first week of June. The weeks are supposed to begin each Friday at 1 p.m. local time. The second week in Johto just wrapped up on May 15, 2020 and now we're moving into week three in the Hoenn region.
This week's special Timed Research line includes a lot of Pokémon from Gen III in the Hoenn region. We have Pokémon reward encounters for every step, as well as for a few of the individual tasks, and more of these Pokémon than not have the potential to be Shiny. Nearly every step of this Timed Research line can be completed without ever leaving home, and all of them can be completed solo. The only task that might require leaving the house is earning a Candy walking with your Buddy Pokémon. For this one, we recommend assigning a Buddy Pokémon that only requires one kilometer to earn a Candy, like Magikarp or Pikachu.
Completion Rewards: Nosepass encounter, one Pinap Berry, two Razz Berries.
Completion Rewards: Hariyama* encounter, two Pinap Berries, one Razz Berry.
Completion Rewards: Manectric* encounter, one Pinap Berry, two Razz Berries.
Completion Rewards: Camerupt encounter, two Pinap Berries, one Razz Berry.
Completion Rewards: Slakoth* encounter, one Pinap Berry, two Razz Berries.
Completion Rewards: Swellow* encounter, two Pinap Berries, one Razz Berry.
Completion Rewards: Claydol* encounter, one Pinap Berry, two Razz Berries.
Completion Rewards: Sealeo encounter, two Pinap Berries, one Razz Berry.
Completion rewards: Groudon* encounter with the event exclusive move Fire Punch, and ten Rare Candies.
To help you complete these Timed Research tasks, the following features and bonuses will be in effect all week:
Once you've completed these Timed Research tasks, you can sit back, relax, and wait for next week's Throwback Challenge to unlock. Beginning Friday, May 22 at 1 p.m. local time, the Sinnoh Timed Research line will unlock. As soon as it does, we'll be here to update you on every task involved.

Editor’s note: The sudden rise in working from home has created unanticipated demand for laptops. As a result, many models that used to be inexpensive are now pricier. Our list of good buys is shorter as a result, but we still care about your limited budget and want to help you make good choices.
When you’re looking for a good, cheap laptop, knowledge is power. Every budget machine (which we’re defining as Windows laptops costing $500 or less) is the product of compromise—corners carefully cut here and there to hit a price point.
Your job is to find the one that checks off the most boxes for your needs—and doesn’t saddle you with features (or lack thereof) that you’ll regret in a year. We’ll show you what to look for by highlighting which budget laptops among the best-sellers currently listed at Amazon and Best Buy are worth buying. We haven’t necessarily tested these specific machines (we’ll let you know if we have), but we’ve seen enough similar ones to have a good idea of the pros and cons. We’re also focusing on 14-inch and larger laptops, because part of the great deal should be getting a decent-sized display.
Apple continues to update its COVID-19 app.
Today, Apple has released another update for its COVID-19 app. The update includes bug fixes and performance improvements as well as some updates to its existing information and some new pieces of data.
The company has updated its recommendations for healthcare workers in order to align with the latest guidelines released by the Centers for Disease Control. It has also added more information for those who may be pregnant or caring for a newborn.
The update also includes some best practices for those who may have been exposed to COVID-19 and need to go into quarantine. The new updates are detailed in the release notes of version 3.1:
This update includes bug fixes and improvements, including: • Updated recommendations for healthcare workers to align with CDC guidelines • Best practices for quarantining if you may have been exposed to COVID-19 • Additional information for pregnancy and newborns
The company has also updated its COVID-19 website, which serves as a way for people to get the same information from the app without having to download one to their phone.
" The COVID-19 app has up-to-date information from trusted sources about the coronavirus disease that is impacting people across the world. It has a screening tool so you can find out what you should do now for yourself or for a loved one. And it gives you access to resources you may need to feel supported and informed."
You can download the COVID-19 app from the App Store or visit the website.
In a bid to help restaurants, cities from Seattle to Washington, D.C., have passed caps restricting how much food apps can charge to deliver meals. App companies claim the move might backfire.

Nintendo has announced the addition of four more games to its Switch Online subscription service. Nintendo Switch Online lets you play Switch games over the internet as well as providing a library of free NES and SNES titles.
The additions for May include one NES game and three SNES games. The NES game is Tecmo’s mythical action game Rygar, while the SNES additions include Natsume’s cult sci-fi western shooter Wild Guns and Jaleco’s overhead shooter Operation Logic Bomb.
The most notable game added to the service in this round is Panel de Pon, which was never released in the US — at least not in this form. It’s a classic SNES puzzle game designed by the legendary Gunpei Yokoi, but outside Japan the game was titled Tetris Attack and its...
Apple confirmed the thing we almost already knew.
Back in April, it was rumored that Apple was the secret buyer behind an acquisition of NextVR, a live event VR/AR company. According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple has confirmed that it was behind the purchase.
The AR/VR company's software is currently integrated with popular virtual and augmented reality headsets from brands like Playstation, Oculus, HTC, Microsoft, and Lenovo.
"NextVR has deals with sports leagues including the National Basketball Association and entertainment networks such as Fox Sports. The startup also has expertise in live streaming in virtual reality, which could also be useful for live concerts and games."
NextVR became available to acquisition because it "failed to secure a Series C round of funding in early 2019, however, which resulted in a 40% staff reduction at the time."
"The Newport Beach, California-based startup officially shut down this week, saying on its website that it is "heading in a new direction." Apple said it buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and generally does not discuss its purpose or plans. It didn't disclose a purchase price, but website 9to5Mac reported in April that Apple was in talks to buy NextVR for about $100 million."
It is currently unclear what exactly the team from NextVR will be working on at Apple, but, with the increasing rumors that the company is working on its own pair of smart glasses, anyone could take an educated guess. The team could also lend their expertise to other AR experiences on the iPhone and iPad.

An Amazon warehouse worker in Indianapolis, Indiana, has died of COVID-19, the company confirmed.
The death brings the known total of COVID-19 deaths at Amazon warehouses to seven, but Amazon’s process for notifying workers makes the true number difficult to determine. Several workers at IND8 first learned of the death through rumors and say management began informing employees more widely only after being confronted.
“They weren’t going to say anything if it wasn’t for people asking questions,” says a worker at IND8, who asked to remain anonymous out of fear of retribution.
Amazon has repeatedly declined to say how many warehouse employees have been diagnosed with or died from the virus. In an interview on “60 Minutes” that aired...
Apple publishes its Supplier Responsibility report with an open letter.
Today, Apple released an update to its Supplier Responsibility report. As part of the report, Apple's Senior Vice President of Operations Sabih Khan released a letter detailing the company's efforts to keep workers in its supply chain safe during the coronavirus outbreak.
Khan says that the company has worked with all of its partners to ensure workers have the personal protective equipment they need and that factories have cleaned regularly.
"First and foremost, that's meant working with our suppliers around the world on a range of protections suited to the circumstances in each country, including health screenings, limiting density, and ensuring strict adherence to social distancing in their facilities. We're requiring the use of personal protective equipment — both during work and in all common areas — and have worked together to implement enhanced deep cleaning protocols and deploy masks and sanitizers."
The company has also worked to reconfigure the floorplans in its factories as well as offer flexible working hours in order to encourage social distancing.
"Our teams have also partnered with suppliers to redesign and reconfigure factory floorplans where needed and to implement flexible working hours — including staggered work shifts — to maximize interpersonal space. We continue to work closely with leading medical and privacy experts to develop advanced health and safety protocols."
Khan closed the letter by saying that Apple has never been more confident in its work to protect people and the planet.
"While COVID-19 has been an unprecedented challenge, we've also drawn hope and inspiration from humanity's renewed focus on the health of our colleagues, friends, and neighbors. That consciousness — of our health and the health of others — is something we can always carry with us. Our work to protect people and the planet may never be finished — but we've never been more confident that our brightest days are still ahead."
