Scosche launches modular charging station for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch
AirPower has gone modular.
What you need to know
- Scosche has launched a new modular charging system for the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch.
- The BaseLynx Modular Charging System is an Apple Store exclusive.
- Customers can purchase individual modules or a kit that includes a preset collection of modules.
Popular accessory maker Scosche has launched a new modular charging system for the iPhone, iPad Apple Watch, and your other Apple accessories. Reported by 9to5Mac, the BaseLynx Modular Charging System was teased back in January but has now found its official release as an Apple Store exclusive.
The system, as its title alludes to, allows you to piece together a custom-built charging solution to fit the devices that you own. If you have an iPhone and Apple Watch, you can purchase two pieces rather than having to buy something that charges an iPad and Mac as well. It's a great idea and one that Apple has decided to get exclusive selling rights to. The Apple Store's product description even recommends it as a charging solution for third party accessories as well.
Scosche's BaseLynx Modular Charging System Kit contains essential modules for charging your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods with Wireless Charging Case. BaseLynx is a customizable, modular system that helps organize, charge, store, and display your iPhones, Apple Watches, iPads, AirPods, portable gaming systems, and other electronic devices. Simply connect the modules in your preferred order, adding more as needed.
The pieces of the system range from a simple Qi charger for your iPhone or AirPods to a slated module to charge mutiple devices like an iPhone and iPad with a wired connection:
- Scosche BaseLynx Vertical Charging Station: $49.95
- Scosche BaseLynx Wireless Charging Pad: $49.95
- Scosche BaseLynx Watch Charger: $69.95
- Scosche BaseLynx EndCap Charger: $39.95
- Scosche BaseLynx Modular Charging System Kit: $149.95
- Scosche BaseLynx Modular Charging System Pro Kit: $199.95
Some notable features include a vertical charging station that features a 18W USB-C Power Delivery connection as well as two 12W USB-A connections and the endcap charger which includes a 12W USB-A and 18W USB-C PD connection. The rest include the Qi or proprietary charging technology you would expect to charge an iPhone, Apple Watch, or AirPods. Apple is selling everything as an individual module or in two starter kits. Everything is available today on the Apple Store website.

Tim Cook talks manufacturing, regulation, and privacy in new interview
Apple's CEO is optimistic about the future of the iPhone and the company.
What you need to know
- Tim Cook sat down during his trip to Japan with the Nikkei Asian Review.
- The CEO talked about manufacturing, antitrust, and what he thinks of smartphone innovation.
- Cook touted the company's work on privacy and its relationships with suppliers.
As part of his tour across Japan, Tim Cook sat down for an interview with the Nikkei Asian Review to talk about the company's economic impact, privacy, and antitrust. Reported by Appleinsider, Cook talked about how the company has created "well over 2 million" jobs in the United States, a remark based off of the2.4 million jobs the company claimed credit for. The estimation was based on positions at the Apple Store, its corporate campus, developers, and suppliers.
Cook talked about how, while the assembly of most of its products happens overseas, the sourcing of materials and manufacturing is thriving domestically.
"The glass on this iPhone is made by Corning in Kentucky. Several of the semiconductors in the iPhone are made in the United States...there's enormous manufacturing happening in the U.S., just not the assembly of the final product...the way that we do manufacturing is we look at all countries and look to see what skills are resident in each country, and we pick the best," Cook said.
Cook also talked about the company's relationship with Seiko Advance, an ink supplier who has helped create the colors for Apple's recent products. The supplier developed the ink and the application process required in order to create the iconic gray, silver, gold, and green colors found on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
"They're the reason that we're able to put this color on the iPhone. We've worked with them for years and we've grown together. Both parties enjoy working together, we push each other to innovate more."
When talking about antitrust and the fact that regulators are taking a stronger stance against big tech as a whole, Cook pushed back, saying that it is the responsibility of the company to not abuse its power. Apple, he stresses, sets itself apart from many of the companies under scrutiny because of its commitment to user privacy.
"A monopoly by itself isn't bad if it's not abused. The question for those companies is, do they abuse it? And that is for regulators to decide, not for me to decide...it's very important to realize that tech itself and these large tech companies are not monolithic...you're not our product, that's very clear in our minds. We don't believe in trafficking your data."
When questioned about the iPhone's declining sales in recent years, Cook believes we are still just scratching the surface of what it and similar products will be capable of. The smartphone market, which many believe is maturing, is just beginning in his eyes.
"I know of no one who would call a 12-year-old mature...sometimes these steps are humongous, sometimes these steps are smaller. But the key is to always make things better, not just change for change's sake."

Get two-hour delivery from Apple Store online for the holidays
Apple's holiday promo keeps getting better.
What you need to know
- Apple expanded two-hour deliver to more locations.
- Now through Dec. 31, you can get your holiday gifts delivered fast.
- Don't forget that 6% cashback with Apple Card.
Apple is really hoping you'll be wrapping up an iPhone, iPad, AirPods, or even a Mac for Christmas this holiday shopping season. In addition to the 6% cash back that you get for making Apple hardware purchases through an Apple Store (either online or in-person), you can also get some of those presents delivered within two hours in certain location all the way through December 31 ... for free!
Normally, around this time, Apple announces its holiday shipping restrictions about when the last day is that you can order something to have it delivered by Dec. 24, but for many of us, we can wait until after Christmas to order online from Apple and still get that present delivered the same day.
Have you ever had someone show up for your holiday party that you weren't expecting and you don't have a gift for them? Well, within two hours, you can rewrite that story to be about how awesome you are to have thought of them, even though you didn't know they were coming.
From what I've been able to tell by checking various products at Apple's Online Store, it looks like this covers third-party accessories, too, at least most of them. The key is that the product has to be available to ship right away. AirPods Pro, for example, don't ship in my area until mid-January, so they will not be sitting under the Christmas tree this year.
The two-hour shipping offer isn't available everywhere. Apple notes that it's available in "most metro areas," so be sure to check your shipping times before you procrastinate.
And, of course, don't forget about that 6% cashback if you buy an Apple brand product with your Apple Card. Considering Apple rarely puts anything on sale, this holiday promo is a pretty sweet deal.
