Myo’s Developer Alpha Teaser Compilation Video Showcases Gesture Control Potential

Waterloo’s Thalmic Labs is shipping out its Myo gesture control band alpha units to developers to get them building software compatible with the new hardware, and it’s already resulting in some incredibly impressive early demos. The Myo team compiled a few of those together into a single short teaser video, but it’s enough to spark the imagination and whet my appetite for when… Read More

LG G Pro 2 review: the evolutionary process

Iterate and update. That's the mantra of the smartphone world these days. Where radical design changes between generations of phones might have been commonplace just a year or so ago, most manufacturers are sticking with designs that work and iterating on them with each generation. You can see that in Apple’s iPhone 5S, which looks exactly like its predecessor. Or Samsung’s recently announced Galaxy S5, which, lo and behold, looks almost exactly like last year’s Galaxy S4.

LG’s new G...

Richard Branson sides with Apple CEO against climate deniers

Inspired by Apple CEO Tim Cook, Virgin founder Richard Branson has taken to his blog to say that businesses should begin standing up against climate change deniers. "While Tim told sustainability skeptics to 'get out of our stock,'" Branson writes, "I would urge climate change deniers to get out of our way." Cook's statements came at a recent shareholders meeting, where he soundly shot down a proposal rooted in climate change denial that would have had Apple putting its bottom line above its interests in sustainability. Cook said that those who would prefer Apple do everything purely for profit simply shouldn't invest.

Likewise, Branson says that businesses and other organizations should never be purely focused on the bottom line. He...

Samsung Working With Startup Partners To Add Gesture-Based Smart Home Control To TVs

Samsung is reportedly (via WSJ) preparing for a smart home control interface that uses your smart TV to recognize basic hand gestures, directed at the objects you actually want to control. So, for example, it would allow you to point at a lamp to turn it off or on, or to other nearby objects to affect them in different ways. The shift is a bit of an extension of what Samsung already offers, which… Read More

Refugio anti-atómico (~1960)

Refugio-Antiatomico

Facebook's 'I Fucking Love Science' making the jump to TV

Neil deGrasse Tyson's new take on Cosmos is a more populist take on science programming than most, but an upcoming show could take the genre even further from staid professors and opaque equations on blackboards. Discovery is bringing I Fucking Love Science, a popular Facebook page with over 10 million likes, to its Science channel in the fourth quarter of 2014. This follows the launch last year of IFLS clips starring page creator Elise Andrew on Discovery's TestTube online video network.

The Wrap reports that the "one-hour show will feature a mix of live-action, animation and recreations that demonstrate the random manifestations of science that connects us." It will be executive-produced by Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson, who...
