Pininfarina's aerodynamic 1960 X Concept was 50 years ahead of its time

Batista Pininfarina's personal championing of this radical project to build a more efficie...

The name Pininfarina is synonymous with expensive and elegant Italian sports cars such as the Maserati GranTurismo, Alfa Romeo Spyder and a log file of Ferraris such as the 365 GTB/4, Enzo, F40 and Testarossa. The global design legend does much more than style beautiful cars though, and ample testimony will appear at auction this week in the form of a little known 1960s concept car. With its four wheels arranged in a diamond shape, the tiny aerodynamic four-seater Pininfarina-X had a drag coefficient of 0.23, indicating that Pininfarina was a long way ahead of the rest of the world in exploring the critical area of aerodynamics, long before it was fashionable. .. Review: KTM 1190 Adventure R – a giant, 148-horsepower superbike for the dirt

KTM Adventure 1190 R: a true, 148-horsepower, dirt road superbike (Photo: Gizmag/Loz Blain...

KTM bills the 2015 1190 Adventure R as both "the world's safest motorcycle" and "without doubt the twin-cylinder enduro with the greatest offroad ability." Backing up the first claim is one of the first lean-angle sensitive Cornering ABS systems to hit the market, and backing up the second is a pair of big, tubeless spoked rims with aggressively knobby tyres on. In the right hands, this thing is a dune-destroying cross-continental touring weapon, a true superbike for the dirt. Loz Blain's hands are not the right hands; he's spent precious little time on the dirt – but he's always up for an Adventure..... KTM's Adventure 1198 R is probably the most extreme adventure motorcycle you can buy. At 148 horsepower, it's considerably more powerful than anything else in the big enduro market, and at 230 kg (507 lbs) with a tank of fuel, it's actually quite light for a big-bore adventure bike. Make no mistake though, it's an intimidating ride – particularly when you're a complete numpty on the dirt like our road bike specialist Loz Blain.
