This week’s summer gaming events: the Xbox Games Showcase and the Summer Game Fest Developer Showcase

Even though E3, Gamescom, and other summer gaming events have become online-only or outright canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there has already been a lot of gaming news this summer.

We finally know what the PlayStation 5 looks like and some of the games coming to the system, for example, and we’ve been given previews of Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars: Squadrons, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the future of Destiny 2, and more. But there are still more events ahead.

This week’s big event is another Xbox digital games showcase, taking place Thursday, July 23rd, at 12PM ET. The whole show will be about an hour long and focused on games, with “no business, devices or similar news,” said Aaron Greenberg, general manager of Xbox games marketing...

I tried switching from the 13-inch MacBook Pro to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Here's why I failed

I really wanted it to work. A couple of weeks ago I closed my MacBook on a Friday afternoon with no plans to open it for a week. I wasn’t going on vacation—rather, I was testing the theory that the iPad could actually be “a computer.”

My setup was as high-end as you could get: a 12.9-inch iPad Pro with 1TB of storage and cellular connectivity, a Magic Keyboard, and Apple Pencil—a setup that's more expensive than the 13-inch MacBook Pro I got it in 2016. It looked great on my desk and felt every bit like the future Apple sells. When I snapped the iPad into its magnetic enclosure, I truly hoped it could replace my MacBook with a sleek, modern, and versatile device.
