The Quantified Self: What sort of data are you tracking?
La grandeza del universo en 4K
Hay quien podría opinar que merecería la pena comprar un TV 4K solo para ver esto.
Se trata de un montaje titulado Gigapixels of Andromeda [4K] que utiliza las imágenes de la NASA recientemente dadas a conocer de la galaxia M-31, a unos impresionantes 69.000 × 22.000 píxeles. Eso es un total de unos 1.500 millones de píxeles que requieren para una sola y gigantesca imagen 4,3 gigabytes de espacio en disco.
El montaje original se compone de cerca de 7.400 fotografías montadas en un gigantesco mosaico, que en el vídeo se va ampliando y desplazando junto con una sobrecogedora música que lleva al espectador a otros mundos.
Según la NASA el conjunto de la imagen contiene unos 100 millones de estrellas en total.

La New Horizons, una sonda espacial con corazón de videoconsola
La sonda New Horizons de la NASA está ahora mismo a unos 4.850 millones de kilómetros de la Tierra, a unos 200 millones de kilómetros de su destino, Plutón, a donde llegará el próximo 14 de julio tras algo más de nueve años de camino por el sistema solar.
Sus dos ordenadores de a bordo , el Sistema De Gestión de Datos y Comandos, y el procesador de Guiado y Control, duplicados por redundancia, y que llevan todo este tiempo haciéndola funcionar, usan como CPU un procesador Mongoose-V, que no es una versión a 12 MHz protegida contra la radiación del MIPS R3000, el mismo que hacía funcionar las PlayStation y PlayStation 2 de Sony.

La Gran Guerra Marciana
La Gran Guerra Marciana (Canal Historia, 2014).
En el verano de 1913 un misterioso objeto en apariencia procedente de Marte se estrella en lo más profundo de la Selva de Bohemia. El Kaiser envía a sus tropas a investigar, y estas desaparecen sin dejar rastro.
A los pocos días los pueblos y ciudades alemanas empiezan a ser atacadas por misteriosas máquinas ante las que no parece haber defensa posible, por lo que pronto el Kaiser pide ayuda al resto de Europa, de tal modo que se forma una alianza entre países que apenas unas semanas antes estaban a punto de enfrentarse entre ellos.
Con grandes sacrificios humanos y materiales los aliados consiguen detener la ofensiva marciana, aunque cualquiera de los intentos de recuperar el terreno perdido termina en un gran fracaso.
Sólo la afortunada captura de una de las máquinas de guerra de los marcianos permite a los aliados concebir alguna esperanza de enfrentarse a ellos, aunque para ello será necesario que los Estados Unidos entren en la guerra, algo a lo que se niegan.
Finalmente, la humanidad consigue –aparentemente– derrotar a los marcianos, pero con un precio en vidas humanas inimaginable, un precio que además no ha de pagar en los campos de batalla.
Mezclando elementos de la primera guerra mundial, la Guerra de los Mundos de H. G. Wells, y la mal llamada gripe española, La Gran Guerra Marciana es un mockumentary, un falso documental, que cuenta esta guerra como si hubiera sido un hecho real, parte de la historia, desde el punto de vista de dos historiadores, uno oficialista, otro más conspiranoico, así como a través de los testimonios de veteranos de guerra y de personas que la vivieron; muchas de las escenas incluyen tomas reales de la primera guerra mundial para darle más realismo.
Muy entretenido y recomendable, en especial si eres fan de H. G. Wells.
