Icon in iOS 13.4 beta reveals potential design of rumored AirPods Studio

Apple may have just leaked the design of AirPods Studio.

What you need to know

  • A new icon in the iOS 14.3 beta may reveal the design of AirPods Studio.
  • The iOS 14.3 beta was released to developers earlier today.
  • The icon is similar to that of earlier reports about the design of the rumored headphones.

Reported by 9to5Mac, the new iOS 14.3 beta may have revealed what Apple's rumored AirPods Studio wireless headphones will look like. An icon found in the beta that was released today resembles a design that has been reported previously.

This new icon found in the iOS 14.3 beta released today to developers resembles the alleged AirPods Studio leaked image shared in September. Earlier this year, Bloomberg described AirPods Studio as headphones with "a retro look with oval-shaped ear cups that swivel and a headband connected by thin, metal arms."

The over-the-ear headphones are rumored to include interchangeable parts that would allow owners to switch out earcups for a more custom fit and different materials for different use cases.

One thing that could set the AirPods Studio apart from competing products is the inclusion of interchangeable parts. The pads of the headphones are said to be magnetic, so they can easily be taken off to replace with a different size ear cup for a better fit. This could also let users have different ear cups to use for different purposes, such as exercising.

The headphones may also feature "neck detection" in order to pause audio when you take them off your ears and rest them around your neck.

One of the key features of regular AirPods is ear detection, which automatically pauses the song when you take the earphones off. We've learned that AirPods Studio will have a similar feature, but it will work in a different way. Instead of ear detection, Apple is working to include sensors that can detect whether the headphones are on your head or neck.

If you're in the market for some over-the-ear wireless headphones but the AirPods Studio don't fit your needs, check out our list of the Best over-the-ear headphones.

Concerning when AirPods Studio may be announced, it was reported back in October that Apple may use part of its rumored March 2021 event to unveil the new premium wireless over-the-ear headphones. Price rumors range anywhere from $349 to $599.

The Shrink Next Door gets another cast member.

What you need to know

  • Casey Wilson has signed on to star in The Shrink Next Door.
  • She will play the wife of manipulative psychiatrist Dr. Isaac "Ike" Herschkopf, played by Paul Rudd.
  • The role will reunite Wilson with Kathryn Hahn who has also signed on to the series.

Reported by Variety, Carey Wilson has signed on to star alongside Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell in the upcoming dark comedy series The Shrink Next Door on Apple TV+.

The Shrink Next Door will feature eight episodes and follow the story of Dr. Isaac "Ike" Herschkopf, played by Rudd, who manipulates and inserts himself into the life of Martin "Marty" Markowitz, played by Ferrell.

She joins previously announced cast members Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, and Kathryn Hahn. Inspired by true events documented in the Wondery and Bloomberg Media podcast of the same name, "The Shrink Next Door" is described as an eight-episode dark comedy following the bizarre relationship between psychiatrist to the stars Dr. Isaac "Ike" Herschkopf (Rudd) and his longtime patient Martin "Marty" Markowitz (Ferrell).

Wilson will star as Bonnie, the wife of the manipulative psychiatrist, and will reunite her with Kathryn Hahn, who also recently signed on to the series.

Wilson will star as Bonnie, the wife of Dr. Herschkopf. The role reunites her with Hahn, with the two having appeared together on the HBO limited series "Mrs. Fletcher." Wilson is also known for her starring role on the ABC sitcom "Happy Endings" as well as shows like "Black Monday," "Saturday Night Live," and "American Dad." On the film side, her roles include "Gone Girl," "The Disaster Artist," and "Always Be My Maybe."

It is currently unclear when The Shrink Next Door will premiere on Apple TV+.

First M1-powered Macs begin to ship ahead of next week's launch

Customers are starting to see their new Macs ship.

What you need to know

  • Apple has begun shipping its new Macs to customers.
  • Ship times show expected delivery as soon as early next week.
  • This falls in line with what Apple promised during its "One More Thing" event.

Reported by 9to5Mac, Apple has begun to ship the first round of Macs powered by the new M1 processor to customers ahead of next week's launch. Apple announced at its "One More Thing" event that availability for the new MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini would begin next week.

The report points to both Apple's own order status as well as its delivery partners like UPS that confirm the shipments.

If you check your order status via Apple's website, you'll likely see that your MacBook Air, Mac mini, or MacBook Pro is still "preparing to ship." But, if you head to the UPS website, you can track the progress of your order and watch as it makes its way to your state.

9to5Mac says that they have confirmed that both the new MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro have begun shipping and expect the new Mac mini to being shipping as early as today as well.

As of right now, we've confirmed that the first MacBook Air and Pro orders have shipped, but it's likely that the first Mac mini orders will also start to ship to customers as soon as today. Apple will likely update the shipment status of the first Apple Silicon Mac orders as soon as this weekend or on Monday.

If the new Macs is more than you need, or you're looking to save some money, check out some of the best Black Friday Deals for MacBooks.

In addition to announcing the M1 chip, Apple's first Apple silicon-based processor, Apple also unveiled a new MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini featuring the new chip. The first benchmarks for the new Macs show an incredible jump in performance when compared to both the iPhone, iPad, and current generation Macs.

macOS Big Sur launch appears to cause temporary slowdown in even non-Big Sur Macs

The words

Mac users today began experiencing unexpected issues that included apps taking minutes to launch, stuttering and non-responsiveness throughout macOS, and other problems. The issues seemed to begin close to the time when Apple began rolling out the new version of macOS, Big Sur—but it affected users of other versions of macOS, like Catalina and Mojave.

Other Apple services faced slowdowns, outages, and odd behavior, too, including Apple Pay, Messages, and even Apple TV devices.

It didn't take long for some Mac users to note that trustd—a macOS process responsible for checking with Apple's servers to confirm that an app is notarized—was attempting to contact a host named oscp.apple.com but failing repeatedly. This resulted in systemwide slowdowns as apps attempted to launch, among other things.
