France's new space command considers using lasers to protect satellites
France has announced it will expand its military space assets and defend them using systems that may include anti-satellite lasers. In a speech before the Commandement de Défense Aérienne et des Opérations Aériennes (Command of air defense and air operations, CDAOA) at Air Base 942 Lyon Mont-Verdun, the Minister of the Armed Forces, Florence Parly said that the government will spend an additional €700 million (US$780 million) by 2025 to produce new surveillance satellites with self-defense capabilities.

Unity, now valued at $6B, raising up to $525M
Unity’s private valuation is climbing but it’s growing unclear whether the company’s leadership is planning to take the 15-year-old gaming powerhouse public anytime soon.
The company announced today that is has received signed agreements from D1 Capital Partners, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, Light Street Capital, Sequoia Capital, and Silver Lake Partners to fund a $525 million tender offer that will allow Unity’s common shareholders — the majority of which are early or current employees — to sell their shares in the company.
The tender offer gives employees “the opportunity for some liquidity,” Unity CFO Kim Jabal says. The total amount raised will depend on the enthusiasm of common shareholders to sell their stakes in Unity.
This event could potentially signify that the company is pushing back its timeline for an IPO, keeping employees that have been sitting on equity for several years happy as Unity labors on in private markets. It’s worth noting that the company has raised hundreds of million previously with the same intent of buying back employee shares.
It was reported earlier this year that Unity was targeting an IPO in the first half of 2020.
The company also confirmed that it wrapped up a $150M Series E funding round in May that doubled the company’s valuation to $6 billion. The announcement confirms the valuation we reported on in May though at a higher amount of capital raised.
SF-based Unity has more than 2,000 employees. The company builds developer tools which are used game studios to create video games across a number of platforms. The company claims that half of all games are created using the company’s game engine.

Grab yourself some new shiny Pokémon in the Team GO Rocket Event!
What you need to know
- Team GO Rocket is disrupting Pokémon habitats.
- Shiny Ekans and Koffing will appear in Eggs, in the wild, and in Raids.
- It starts Thursday, July 25, 2019, at 1 p.m. until Thursday, August 1, 2019, at 1 p.m. PDT (GMT −7)
- Other Pokémon will spawn more frequently.
With the Team GO Rocket Disruption event finally in full swing, the team at Niantic have added some more goodies to collect along the way. There are a couple of new shiny Pokémon — Ekans and Koffing — to be found from today until August 1, 2019, as well as extra spawns of Pokémon that Team Rocket normally has with them.
Team GO Rocket's arrival seems to have disrupted Pokémon habitats! We have yet to understand why these Pokémon in particular are suddenly appearing more frequently. Perhaps they have some special significance wherever Team GO Rocket came from?
The list of Pokémon that will appear more frequently has a lot of common Pokémon in it, but there are some cool Pokémon to grab in there too, especially if they don't normally spawn in your area. Here is the least of the current features.
- Oddly specific Shiny Pokémon have started appearing! Our research has found that if you're lucky, you may encounter a Shiny Ekans or Shiny Koffing in the wild, in raids, or in Eggs!
- The following Pokémon will hatch more frequently from Eggs: Rattata, Ekans, Sandshrew, Zubat, Meowth, Machop, Magnemite, Grimer, Gastly, Drowzee, Cubone, Koffing, Murkrow, Sneasel, Houndour, and Poochyena.
- Raids will feature Pokémon that we believe are significant to Team GO Rocket.
The Niantic team did mention that they may be more surprises along the way so we will keep you posted about any new developments!

Can I use Instant Pot recipes in my Ninja Foodi?
Best answer: Yes. Instant Pot and Ninja Foodis are both pressure and slow cookers, so any pressure or slow cooker recipes will work in both. However, the Ninja Foodi does not have presets, so you may have to experiment with cooking times if you're following a recipe designed for Instant Pot cookery.
- Cooker and crisper: Ninja Foodi (From $200 at Ninja)
- Pressure measured: Instant Pot (From $100 at Amazon)
It's all about the timing
While you can use the ingredients list from Instant Pot recipes, cooking times are a different matter. Many Instant Pot recipes you can find online rely on the Instant Pot's built-in cooking presets which the Ninja Foodi does not have.
You will find Ninja Foodi cooking charts with suggested times in the "Inspiration Guide" booklet that came with your Ninja Foodi. It's best to refer to these when calculating cooking times for recipes you want to make in your Foodi.
Vet the presets
If you've found a recipe you want to make in your Foodi but was initially designed for the Instant Pot, you can look up the Instant Pot presets.
For example, the Instant Pot's "Meat/Stew Function" is a 35-minute program of 230 degrees with pressure set to around 8.7 psi. Once you know this, you can replicate these settings with your Ninja Foodi.
Also, if you're following a chicken recipe designed for Instant Pot cookery, the Instant Pots has a "Poultry" preset which defaults to a high-pressure setting for 15 minutes. Sadly, there is no such button on your NinjaFoodi. Instead, for a whole fresh 5lbs chicken cooked in the Cook & Crisp basket, timing recommendations are high pressure for 22 minutes, then air crisp at 400 degrees for 10 to 18 minutes.
Fun with your Foodi
If you're struggling to find recipes to make in your Ninja Foodi, SharkNinja (the company behind the brand) has a really useful website that offers a plethora of free meal ideas for both pressure cooking and slow cooking options. From apple hand pies to zeppole, there are literally hundreds of options to inspire you.
Of course, if you don't want to go through all the guesswork, and you really want those presets, you could always go with the Instant Pot. The best choice depends on what you want out of your pressure and slow cooker.
Our pick
Ninja Foodi
Multi-talented multicooker
Any recipe suitable for a slow or pressure cooker is suitable for your Ninja Foodi. Just be sure to research the correct cooking times to ensure food is cooked thoroughly. This may take some trial and error, but keeping notes on what does work is a handy way to improve your multicooker repertoire.
Classic cookery
Instant Pots
Button up
The Instant Pot range of pressure and slow cookers are a totally capable and competent option, and thanks to the built-in preset cooking options, ideal for less confident cooks.
