This stylus pen is almost as good as Apple Pencil at a fraction of the cost

While we love the Apple Pencil, it's just a tad expensive (the first generation runs around $99, and the second-generation is even more at $130) for some of us, even with Black Friday Apple Pencil deals. But believe it or not, there are some great third-party Apple Pencil clones out there that do most of the same things as the Apple Pencil, but at a fraction of the cost. One of those is the JAMJAKE Stylus Pen, which you can grab for about $24, which is 49% off it's normal price of $50.

$24 at Amazon

Precise writing and drawing

The JAMJAKE Stylus Pen features palm rejection, accuracy and precision for smooth writing and drawing, and is compatible with several different iPad models.

Even though the Apple Pencil is what we consider to be the best stylus for the iPad, let's face it — not everyone wants to pay about $100 or more for a stylus. The JAMJAKE Stylus Pen is a good alternative — it features palm rejection technology, so you can use it on your iPad just as you would use a pen on paper. The tip of the JAMJAKE Stylus Pen is a nib, so you'll get precision and accuracy when writing and drawing on your iPad. Of course, the nib may get worn down over time, but you get an extra replacement tip, so this stylus will last you a long time.

The JAMJAKE Stylus Pen also has wide compatibility with a variety of iPad models. This stylus works flawlessly with the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2018-2020), sixth and seventh-generation iPad, iPad mini 5, and iPad Air 3 and later. It charges up via USB-C, going from zero to full in 90 minutes. The stylus pen will last 20 hours on continuous use, and have 365 days of standby time. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be magnetic so it won't "stick" to your iPad, so you may need a case with an Apple Pencil holder to keep it safe.

Keep in mind that the JAMJAKE Stylus Pen does not have pressure sensitivity (like most other third-party styli), so all lines will be the same thickness and require manual size adjustment in apps. Still, you're saving a good chunk of change, so it's just a minor inconvenience for great value.

MagSafe Duo Charger gets FCC approval ahead of imminent release

The MagSafe Duo Charger could be released at any time now.

What you need to know

  • Apple's MagSafe Duo Charger has received FCC approval.
  • Reviews for the product also went live today.
  • It sets the product up for an imminent release.

Reported by MacRumors, Apple has received FCC approval for its upcoming MagSafe Duo Charger, paving the way for the company to publically release the product. In addition to the approval, reviews for the product went live today, indicating that the charger could release in the coming days.

The FCC filing covers a "two coil charger" with a model number of A2458. The filing includes images, user manuals, and RF exposure reports ... Apple has also received regulatory approval for the MagSafe Duo in other countries such as Korea ahead of its official launch.

Apple revealed last week that the MagSafe Duo Charger was "coming soon" and would be priced at $129 on the Apple Store website. The charger enables users to fast charge their iPhone 12 and Apple Watch at the same time. It also folds up, making it a versatile charging accessory that is both good at home and while traveling.

While the MagSafe Duo Charger includes a USB-C to Lightning Cable in the box, it does not include the 20W USB-C wall charger that it needs in order to charge the iPhone and Apple Watch at maximum charging speeds.

Apple originally announced the MagSafe Duo Charger at its "Hi, Speed" iPhone 12 and HomePod mini event back in October. The charger was announced alongside the MagSafe Charger, as well as the MagSafe Wallet and MagSafe iPhone cases.

Sony prepares to enter the drone game with Airpeak

Sony has announced that it is entering the drone market with a new brand called Airpeak, though the specifics of the drone itself are left something of a mystery. It plans to launch the project next spring.

The barebones announcement says only that Sony has been inspired by the “recent proliferation” of drones and the changes they have caused in both the industrial and creative sectors.

Airpeak will focus on multiple industries as well, though it has its work cut out for it if it intends to go up against DJI, which has become the first choice in the consumer UAV sector.

Sony describes the drone as being developed within “the field of AI robotics,” which, along with the aim to enable drone use where it was previously difficult to do so, suggests Sony plans to integrate a fair amount of intelligence into the drones’ systems.

Small UAVs have gotten smarter and smarter, able now to avoid obstacles, recognize other flying objects, and navigate between buildings without any intervention from their human operators. But many of these capabilities are still essentially theoretical rather than widely deployed.

Beyond the name, general flavor of the project, and a render of what is almost certainly a rotor, that is the sum total of what we know about Sony’s new project. Expect more to be posted to the official website in time.

Google’s Nest Audio may or may not have a home theater trick up its sleeves

Photo: Dan Seifert / The Verge

In our review of Google’s $99 Nest Audio speaker, we wrote that it’s “unfortunate that you can’t use two Nest Audio speakers paired with a Chromecast for home theater audio, like you can do with a couple of Amazon Echo speakers and a Fire TV.”

But it appears that Google originally intended to offer just such a feature — and we’re wondering if the company might still introduce it in the next few months.

As 9to5Google points out, Google seemingly forgot to remove a rather telling arrangement of words from the HTML source for its Nest Audio product page:

With Chromecast & Google TV Nest Audio becomes your home theater sound system.

The UK version of the page even had an alternate localization of the same sentence, which suggests intention....

Major developers opt out of Mac App Store ahead of Apple Silicon launch

Some of your favorite iPhone and iPad apps might be missing from the Mac App Store for the Apple Silicon launch.

What you need to know

  • Some major developers are opting out of the Mac App Store for the Apple Silicon launch.
  • Apps that will be missing include ones from Google and Facebook.
  • Others, like Netflix and HBO Max, seem to be on track to launch on the store.

Reported by 9to5Mac, some major developers are deciding to opt-out of offering their apps on the Mac App Store ahead of tomorrow's Apple Event, where the company is expected to announce its own Apple Silicon chips that will be able to run iPhone and iPad apps on the Mac.

Apple is allowing developers to choose if they would like to offer their apps through the Mac App Store for Macs running Apple Silicon processors, but it appears that some major developers have chosen to not offer their iOS or iPadOS apps through the Mac App Store, including Google and Facebook. Others, like Netflix, seem to be on track for availability through the store.

If you were expecting to watch YouTube on your new Mac with a native app, you're out of luck. Google has chosen not to offer most of its apps on the Apple Silicon platform, and this also includes Google Maps, Google Drive, and Gmail apps. On the other hand, the Netflix app for iOS is still on track to be available on new Macs, as well as the HBO Max app.

In addition to Facebook, streaming services like Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ will also be missing from the Mac App Store at launch.

Facebook has also chosen not to include its iOS apps on the Mac App Store, such as Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and the Facebook app itself. There are some other noteworthy apps that will be missing from the Mac App Store, including Snapchat, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+.

Of course, any of these apps could be turned on for the Mac App Store whenever the developer is ready, so this list could change at any time. However, it does appear that some popular iPhone and iPad apps may be missing from the store when Apple launches its first Apple Silicon Macs.
