Tim Cook sells over a hundred million dollars of Apple stock

Tim Cook just netted over a hundred million dollars in stock sales.

Reported by MacRumors, Apple's CEO sold stock that, according to the company's stock price at the time, earned Cook around $131.7 million. The CEO was just awarded 560,000 shares of Apple stock as a bonus for the company's performance.

After receiving the award, Cook sold more than 265,000 of those shares at prices ranging from $493.50 to $500.11, netting him somewhere around $131.7 million, according to a filing published today by the SEC. The remaining 294,840 shares worth over $148 million were withheld by Apple for taxes.

According to the report, the CEO has another 700,000 shares of Apple stock that will vest next year. Cook still currently holds over 800,000 shares of stock worth around $418 million.

Cook is set to have another 700,000 of his RSUs vest on August 24, 2021, based on his original employment agreement with Apple ... After selling the RSUs provided this year, Cook continues to hold 837,374 shares of Apple stock worth $418 million.

Tim Cook is now worth over $1 billion as Apple itself became the first U.S. company to hit a $2 trillion market cap.

Apple is still working on a "less ambitious" version of AirPower

AirPower continues to live on despite all of the odds.

Reported by Bloomberg, Apple has not given up on at least some version of AirPower, despite having canceled the project back in 2019. Included in a report about a rivaling technology developed by Aira and Nomad, the Base Station Pro, Bloomberg mentioned that Apple is still developing a "less ambitious" version of AirPower.

More than a year after AirPower's demise, Apple is developing a less ambitious wireless charger for the iPhone. But while the Silicon Valley giant works on that product, Aira Inc., a startup based in Chandler, Arizona, this week is rolling out a technology called FreePower that aims to deliver on the original promise of AirPower, and works for devices from different manufacturers, including those from Google and Samsung Electronics Co. -- not just Apple.

According to the report, Aira's technology is currently unable to charge an Apple Watch or display the charging status off other Apple devices on the lock screen of the iPhone, two features that were promised with Apple's AirPower.

Compared with the planned AirPower, the FreePower technology has two drawbacks. It can't charge an Apple Watch, which Aira attributes to that device's proprietary charger. Unlike the AirPower, Aira's technology also can't allow an iPhone to show the charging status of other devices on the mat.

The technology from Aira also has issues with slowing down or pausing charging due to issues with understanding what is on the mat. This was also an issue with AirPower, however.

In a recent test, the Aira system sometimes paused or slowed charging on a device because it confused that gadget with another one on the mat that had already finished charging. Aira said this is due to a bug with the algorithm the company uses to avoid the overheating issue. This was a problem that plagued Apple's AirPower mat, too.

If Apple is able to bring back AirPower it would definitely be able to offer more features than technologies like Aira's, but that all depends on if the company figures out how to get past the roadblocks that stopped it beforehand.

Reported by Business Insider (via AppleInsider), Apple is in negotiations with its landlord in the city to potentially expand its existing office space. According to the report, the company is looking to add about 60,000 square feet to its office at 11 Penn Plaza.

According to Business Insider, Apple is negotiating with its landlords to add about 60,000 square feet to its existing 11 Penn Plaza office. Reportedly, there are options in the building for more space. The talks are ongoing and there is "nothing concrete," meaning Apple may not yet have decided on the amount of office space or whether it wants to expand at all.

The report notes that, even if Apple does expand its office space, its presence in the city is relatively small when compared to other technology giants like Google and Facebook.

The Cupertino company's expansion in New York would join a growing tech industry footprint in the city over the past few years. Google and Facebook are currently the city's fifth- and sixth-largest office tenants, respectively. Apple, for its part, has long had a smaller presence in Manhattan — and the rumored 60,000 additional square feet is relatively modest among corporations of its size. Business Insider reports that Apple has been rumored to be ramping up its operations in Manhattan, however.

Earlier this year, Apple rented 200,000 square feet of office space in New York City's 11 Penn Plaza. While that was the company's largest footprint in the city to date, it appears that they already may need even more space.
