Reported by MacRumors, Sony is jumping on board and enabling its customers to use their cameras as a webcam for the Mac. Today, the company released its Imaging Edge Webcam software for the Mac, allowing Mac users to upgrade from the lackluster quality of the built-in webcam to the high-quality video achieved by one of Sony's cameras.

Sony had promised the software back in August, so it appears it has made good on that promise. Multiple of its camera models will work with the software, including its E-mount, A-mount, and DSC cameras.

Sony first unveiled its Imaging Edge Webcam software for PCs in August, with the initial software limited to Windows 10 machines. At the time, Sony promised a fall expansion to the Mac, which has now happened. Imaging Edge Webcam works with a wide range of popular E-mount, A-mount, and DSC cameras, with a full list available on Sony's website.

Sony notes that the software is only compatible with Macs running macOS High Sierra, macOS Mojave, and macOS Catalina. It is not clear if it will immediately support macOS Big Sur when it launches sometime this fall.

Reported by AppleInsider, Google has released an official companion Apple Watch app for the YouTube Music app.

The app will allow YouTube Music subscribers to control playback of the YouTube Music app on their iPhone right from their wrist. In addition to controlling playback, you will also be able to add songs to your library and stream to other devices using Chromecast.

The app, which requires watchOS 6 and an Apple Watch Series 3 or later to run, will allow users to stream tracks from YouTube Music on their wrists. Like other streaming platforms on watchOS, the YouTube Music app is basically a remote for the full app on an iPhone. It allows users to perform basic functionality like control playback and browse their libraries.

The new Apple Watch app support complications, so you'll now be able to add YouTube Music to your watch faces. The app does not, however, support downloading songs directly to the watch or to stream directly to the watch.

It also comes with a complication that Apple Watch users can add to their watch faces, though not all faces support it, and a shortcut that lets users cast a song from a smartphone to a speaker. There are some limitations, including the fact that the app doesn't currently support offline playback on the Apple Watch.

Apple is still keeping the iPhone 11 as an affordable option for many people. While it is last-gen tech, the A13 Bionic is still plenty fast for most people, and you have the Ultra Wide lens and Night Mode and Deep Fusion on the rear-cameras. The battery will last you most of the day, but keep in mind you won't have 5G, MagSafe, or an OLED screen.

While the iPhone 12 is the latest and greatest from Apple, it still has a relatively high price point for a lot of folks, so the iPhone 11 may be more appealing. And while the iPhone 11 isn't a bad phone, it's still last year's tech, so it will have some shortcomings when compared to the new iPhone 12.

If you must choose one between the iPhone 12 vs iPhone 11, we're going to go with the iPhone 12. This will be the first iPhone that will be able to use 5G networks across all major carriers, which means blazing fast download speeds (as long as 5G is in your area). However, with the addition of 5G, the battery life for the iPhone 12 won't be much better than the iPhone 11 because Apple rates both at 17 hours. The 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display also means you get a screen that is capable of true blacks and vivid colors like never before, which you simply just don't get with LCD. And of course, the A14 Bionic means that the iPhone 12 will be faster and zippier over the iPhone 11.

With the debut of MagSafe for iPhone 12, you're also going to have more options when it comes to charging and accessories. The iPhone 12 will still charge via a Lightning cable and Qi wireless chargers, but MagSafe takes it to a whole other level. With MagSafe, the iPhone 12 devices have a ring of magnets on the back that serve as the backbone for the MagSafe ecosystem. Because of this ring, accessories and MagSafe chargers easily line up and attach to the back of your iPhone 12. MagSafe chargers can do up to 15W output and cases and accessories like wallets can snap on. There will also be plenty of third-party MagSafe accessories that will change how you accessorize and charge.

The iPhone 12 also has many notable camera improvements, such as bigger sensors, ProRAW, and even Night Mode Time-lapse. The TrueDepth camera on the front of the iPhone 12 can now do Night Mode and Deep Fusion as well, unlike the iPhone 11. And for video recording, the iPhone 12 can do Dolby Vision videos at 30FPS.

However, the iPhone 11 is still a very good device that can run iOS 14, and it's $200 less than the iPhone 12, so it's a good option to pick up if you're on a budget. Despite being last-gen, the A13 Bionic is a very capable processor, and the cameras are not too shabby — you still get the Ultra Wide lens, along with Night Mode and Deep Fusion.

iPhone 12 vs iPhone 11: Should you upgrade?

If you have an iPhone 11 right now, then I don't think you should upgrade to the iPhone 12 for marginal spec bumps. The iPhone 11 is still a great phone with iOS 14, and the specs are still powerful, all things considered. Honestly, if you're on an iPhone 11, then perhaps the better upgrade would be to an iPhone 12 Pro, but that's entirely up to you. Sometimes just grabbing a new iPhone 11 case could make your phone feel fresh and new.

However, if you are still on an iPhone XS or earlier, then i believe the iPhone 12 would be a significant upgrade. You'll be getting a slightly bigger screen with the Ultra Wide lens, Night Mode, 5G, MagSafe, and more.

Wireless CarPlay comes to the Honda Accord and Hyundai Santa Fe

Reported by MacRumors, Honda has announced that it is bringing wireless CarPlay to the 2021 Accord in its higher-end EX-L and Touring trims within a new 8-inch touchscreen display.

Wireless CarPlay allows you to connect your iPhone to your car over Bluetooth and enjoy streaming music, maps, Siri, and more without having to plug in with a lightning cable. While some may hesitate to drop the cable because of the charging benefit, Honda has reportedly added wireless charging to the car as well.

Wireless CarPlay works over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, eliminating the need for the iPhone to be connected to the infotainment system with a Lightning cable. Together with wireless charging, these features free up the USB ports in the vehicle, which have been moved to the front of the center console for easier access.

Honda isn't the only car company to bring wireless CarPlay to one of its models lately. Hyundai has also added wireless CarPlay to the 2021 Santa Fe for the trim models not equipped with its own navigation system. Hyundai has also upgraded its car to an 8-inch touchscreen display to take advantage of the new feature.

Hyundai has also added wireless CarPlay and Android Auto to the 2021 Santa Fe, on models that are not equipped with navigation. Wired CarPlay and Android Auto remain standard on navigation-equipped models. The vehicle is now equipped with a larger 8-inch touchscreen, an upgrade from the 7-inch display in previous models.

According to the report, the 2021 Honda Accord has already gone on sale in the United States this week, with the Hyundai Santa Fe coming by the end of the year.

Apple is extending the amount of time that developers can offer their app for pre-order to users in the App Store.

In a news update on the Apple Developer website, the company has announced that customers can now pre-order an app up to 180 days before it is released on the App Store. Once the app is released, customers who have pre-ordered the app will receive a notification and, if they don't install it manually, it will be downloaded to their device within 24 hours.

Apple says that it is extending the amount of time for pre-orders to give developers more time to build excitement around their new app.

Now you can let customers pre-order your app up to 180 days before it's released for download on the App Store. Take advantage of this longer lead time to build more excitement for your app's features, services, and content, and to encourage more pre-orders. Once your app is released, customers will be notified and it will automatically download to their device within 24 hours.

Apple has allowed developers to offer their apps for pre-order since 2017. Until now, you could only pre-order an app up to 90 days before it released for download on the App Store. With today's announcement, that time is now doubled.

Having many years of experience in preordering under our belts, we have learned the fastest way to get through the iPhone preorder process.

Preordering a new iPhone brings no end of anxiety. Most people only do this every two years and, at the most, we might do it once a year. So, when the minute hand clicks into place at 5:00 AM PST/ 8:00 AM EST on Friday, Oct. 16, we're all full of anxiety and stress, hoping to be one of the first to get our iPhone delivered on launch day.

We've been through this process many, many times and, thanks to our experiences, have a list of best practices for preparing for your iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro preorder, as well as, the things you should do during the ordering process. Here is everything you need to know to get through the preorder process the absolute fastest possible.

Pick your iPhone model ahead of time

Don't wait until midnight to pick your model, color, carrier, and capacity. Apple provides a handy favoriting option so you can keep the iPhone of your choice tucked away and ready to purchase.

You can pick your iPhone via Apple.com or through the Apple Store app on your iPhone or iPad. Whichever method you use to pick your model, make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID in both places so your saved information carries over.

• Select the iPhone you want.
• Select your carrier.
• Select your finish.
• Select your capacity.
• Select your payment option.
• Select which AppleCare+ policy you want if you want to add it.

After you've selected a payment option, the ability to favorite the device will appear. On the website, scroll down to the section that shows the device availability and tap the heart. On the Apple Store app, tap the heart in the upper right corner of the screen.

Don't assume that the model you want will be available to ship on launch day. If you want your iPhone as soon as possible, and color options and capacity are not totally significant to your life, choose at least one backup second-choice option.

I actually have three choices; one for each color. My carrier is the only thing that isn't different across my favorites. You're backup choice should either be for your preferred color or preferred capacity, whichever is more important to you.

Double-check your personal information on file with Apple

This step is very important, and can sometimes be the singular issue that trips a person up during preorder. Check to make sure that all of the information on file with Apple is correct and up to date. Make sure your credit card expiration date is correct, your shipping address is correct, and your billing address matches your credit card account information.

You can find this information on Apple.com or via the Apple Store app on iPhone and iPad.

On the website, click on the bag in the upper right corner, then click on Account. On the Apple Store app, tap your Account profile, then tap My Primary Payment to check your payment information. Tap My Primary Shipping to confirm your shipping address.

Have your credit card nearby

I recommend keeping your credit card close by during the preorder process. Even though your card information is on file with Apple, you might have to manually enter the three-digit security confirmation code that is on the back of your physical card. Most of us don't have that number memorized, especially in the middle of the night. If you're using your Apple Card to pay for your new iPhone, make sure you know how to find your three-digit security confirmation code.

Have your carrier account information on hand

When preordering, you'll be asked to select whether you want to buy your iPhone on an existing wireless carrier account or replace a phone on your current carrier account. Whether you're replacing a phone or adding a phone, you'll need your carrier account information if you're not purchasing your iPhone SIM-free.

Make sure to have handy your wireless phone number, your billing zip code, and the last four digits of your social security number.

Note: If you don't already have a PIN set up with your carrier, do so ahead of time to speed up the confirmation process with Apple. If you don't already have a PIN enabled, Apple will send you a one-time passcode to confirm.

Use the Apple Store app, but have a second device ready as backup

If you don't already have it, download the Apple Store app to your iPhone or iPad and sign in with your Apple ID. Make sure everything is set up and ready to go. Double-check to see that your iPhone model choices are saved in your favorites. The Apple Store app is still faster than ordering via a web browser. This should be your first pathway to preordering.

You should, however, have Apple.com up and running on your computer just in case something goes wrong on your device and you have to quickly switch over. Do a test run

It's a good idea to do a test run purchase via whichever method you will be preordering your new iPhone. Pick something small, something you want anyway, like a case or charger. Save it to your favorites, then complete the order process so you know for sure that everything is as it should be (your address is correct, your credit card on file is up to date, etc.).

Breathe

We know how stressful it can be to preorder an iPhone, hoping to have it in hand on launch day, but remember: it's just a phone and you'll get it eventually, even if it is a little late. Take a deep breath and try to relax.
