Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Rogue are coming to Nintendo Switch

Both games are being bundled in Assassin's Creed: Rebel Collection.

What you need to know

  • Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Rogue are coming to Nintendo Switch.
  • They are being bundled together in Assassin's Creed: Rebel Collection.
  • The bundle releases on December 6, 2019.

It's been a long time coming but more Assassin's Creed games are making their way to Nintendo Switch, just maybe not the ones that you want. It isn't Origins or Odyssey — well, unless you live in Japan — but instead Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Rogue. During the latest Nintendo Direct, the company announced that both games would be bundled together.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag fleshed out the sailing mechanic introduced in Assassin's Creed 3 and gave us a full-fledged pirate adventure with its own Assassin vs Templar twist. It was the first in the series to not star Desmond Miles in the present day, though it did star his ancestor and Connor's grandfather, Edward Kenway during the golden age of piracy in the Caribbean.

Rogue released the following year for Xbox 360 and PS3, that generation's Assassin's Creed offering for 2014 after Unity was designed for current-gen consoles. It was arguably the better of the two between it and Unity, and Rogue was eventually remastered for Xbox One and PS4 as well. It stars Shay Patrick Cormac, as Assassin turned Templar during the Seven Years' War in the colonies.

Assassin's Creed: Rebel Collection, containing Black Flag and Rogue, will release on December 6, 2019. They join Assassin's Creed 3, which is already out on Nintendo Switch.

Game Freak's non-Pokémon game, Little Town Hero, comes out October 16

Protect your town from monster attacks.

What you need to know

  • Little Town Hero is a role-playing game created by Game Freak.
  • Game Freak is best known for being the developer of the Pokémon games.
  • Most of the music in Little Town Hero was composed by Undertale creator, Toby Fox.
  • Little Town Hero is currently available for pre-purchase on the Nintendo eShop.
  • Little Town Hero releases on Nintendo Switch on October 16, 2019.

During today's Nintendo Direct, it was announced that Game Freak's newest game, Little Town Hero, will come to Nintendo Switch on October 16, 2019. It's a single-player role-playing game that uses strategy and a challenging battle system. It was also revealed that Toby Fox, the creator of the indie hit, Undertale, is the main composer for Little Town Hero's music. With such great creative minds working together, there are some high expectations for this game.

Game Freak is already well known as the publisher for the Pokémon games. It seems that the company's love of crazy creatures continues in this latest RPG. You won't be capturing any pocket monsters, but you will be fighting monstrous enemies. As with the Pokémon games, Little Town Hero features a playful, cartoony art style and creative character design as can be seen in this tweet:

Within the game, the inhabitants of the village obey one rule — to never leave. When a monster appears within the village walls, the main character, Axe, discovers he has the ability to fight with the help of a red stone he discovered in the coalmines. According to Game Freak, Axe fights using ideas and strategies. The trick will be coming up with new ideas and, more importantly, knowing when to use them. During the course of the plot, players will unravel the mysteries of these monsters and the stones that defeat them.

Reefknot Investments launches $50 million fund to invest in logistics and supply chain startups

Reefknot Investments, a joint venture between Temasek, Singapore’s sovereign fund, and global logistics company Kuehne + Nagel, announced today the launch of a $50 million fund for logistics and supply chain startups. The firm is based in Singapore, but will look for companies around the world that are raising their Series A or B rounds.

Managing director Marc Dragon tells TechCrunch that Reefknot will serve as a strategic investor in its portfolio companies, providing them with connections to partners that include EDBI, SGInnovate, Atlantic Bridge, Vertex Ventures, PSA unBoXed, Unilever Foundry and NUS Enterprise, in addition to Temasek and Kuehne + Nagel.

Dragon, a veteran of the supply chain and logistics industry, says Reefknot plans to invest in about six to eight startups. It is especially interested in companies that are using AI or deep mind tech, digital logistics and trade finance to solve problems that range from analyzing supply chain data and making forecasts to managing the risk of financing trade transactions. Data from Gartner shows that about half of global supply chain companies will use AI, advanced analytics or the Internet of Things in their operations by 2023.

“There is a high level of expectation from vendors that because of technology, there will be new methods to do analytics and planning, and greater visibility in terms of information and product, materials and goods flowing throughout the supply chain,” says Dragon.

Reefknot will also establish a think tank that will work with industry experts and government organizations on forums, research and exploring new logistics and supply chain business models that startups can bring into fruition.

Nintendo has announced the release date for Trials of Mana

Seiken Densetsu 3 is the third game of the popular Mana series from Square Enix, but it was never released outside of Japan, until now.

Nintendo revealed the HD remake of Square Enix's Seiken Densetsu 3. It originally came out on the Super Famicom back in 1995, and is the third installment of the Mana series.

Here's everything you need to know about Trials of Mana.

What's new with Trials of Mana?

Sept. 4, 2019: Nintendo has revealed the release date for Trials of Mana. The game will launch on April 24, 2020.

What is Trials of Mana?

Trials of Mana is going to be the HD remake of Seiken Densetsu 3. It is the third game in the Secret of Mana series, and it was never before released outside of Japan and the Super Famicom. The two games before this were released state-side, but not Seiken Densetsu 3.

This HD remake gets rid of the old pixel art style and goes for full 3D visuals. It used to be a top-down styled JRPG, but Trials of Mana is a modernized RPG with fast-paced action.

How's the story?

There are six different characters that we see in the Trials of Mana trailer, and each character has their own unique storyline. Part of their storylines reveal their origins and where they come from. We can only assume that at some point, all of these characters come together and meet.

In addition to each character's plot, there is a general story behind everything. The world was shrouded in a darkness, and the Goddess of Mana drew the Sword of Mana to smite the eight monsters of destruction, also known as Benevodons. These creatures got sealed away in the Mana Stones, which then brought the realm back from destruction. But doing this caused the Goddess to grow weak, so she changed into a tree and went to sleep.

Eventually, new forces of evil wanted the power of the Benevodons to gain control of the world. War sprung up and the kingdoms became unstable. There was no longer any peace, and mana began to disappear, causing the Mana Tree to wither away.

What's the gameplay like?

As the characters come together, you'll be able to compose teams of three members at a time. With your chosen three, you'll be able to cover different strategies and tactics based on each characters abilities and fighting style, giving you a bit of freedom and customization on how you want to play. While you only control one character, the other two will be controlled through AI. And since the gameplay is more action focused, you can even dodge enemy attacks.

Trials of Mana features a new leveling and skill system that is different from the original.

When will Trials of Mana be available?

Trials of Mana will be released on April 24, 2020. We'll assume that it will carry the standard $60 price tag for Switch games.

We will keep you updated with more information on Trials of Mana as it becomes available.

As Dorian threatens real destruction, Trump pushes a fantasy forecast

President Trump Receives Briefing On Hurricane Dorian At White House Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images

After badly battering the Bahamas, Hurricane Dorian is making its way up the Atlantic coast of the US — but President Trump is still inexplicably calling attention inland to Alabama, a state that is nowhere near the hurricane’s current path. On September 4th, he tweeted a video of himself with a doctored National Hurricane Center map in hand, saying Dorian “could’ve, uh, was going towards the Gulf.” Trump pointed to what looked like a bubble drawn over Alabama in black sharpie to indicate that the state had at one point been in the path of the storm.

It was not. Although the trajectory of the storm shifted rapidly over the past week, the National Hurricane Center never released a forecast showing that chunk of Alabama in danger of being...

Bellwether Coffee, ‘the fastest-growing company in coffee,’ raises $40M Series B

There’s an arms race in retail to produce better coffee, and one startup, Bellwether Coffee, thinks it has the solution for retailers to sell the very best beans.

The business, headquartered in Berkeley, is today announcing a $40 million Series B financing led by DBL Partners and SolarCity co-founders Peter and Lyndon Rive. The round brings its total funding to $56 million, including a $10 million Series A last summer.

The hardware and software business manufactures tech-enabled zero-emission commercial coffee roasters designed to sit in cafes, grocery stores, on college campuses and any other place people buy coffee. Purchase of a roaster, which are sold for $75,000 or leased for $1,000 per month, comes with access to an online marketplace for coffee beans. The goal is to give coffee shops the power to roast their own beans, forgoing the middle men that have historically sold wholesale pre-roasted beans at a premium to cafes around the world.

“We want to create this connected coffee experience from the farm in Ethiopia all the way to the roaster at the cafe and the customer,” Bellwether chief executive officer Nathan Gilliland tells TechCrunch.

With roughly 140 customers, Bellwether plans to expand manufacturing capabilities and grow its customer-facing team with the infusion of venture capital funding. After growing revenues 6x in 2019, the startup is also unlocking its global ambitions, with launches in Southeast Asia and Europe scheduled for next year.

Gilliland credits the company’s growth to a larger movement at play: The “premiumization of coffee,” in which consumers are in search of higher quality cups of joe.

“You saw it happen with wine, you saw it in craft beer,” he said. “You were drinking Bud Light and now you’re drinking craft beer. You see it in higher-end grocery stores pushing out these products; it’s the premiumization of the category.”

“Thirty years ago, everyone drank Folgers, then Starbucks changed how everyone thought about coffee in the 80s, then Blue Bottle took it to the next step and that’s the backdrop,” he added.

Bellwether was founded in 2013 by Ricardo Lopez. The company is also backed by FusionX, Congruent Ventures, Coffee Bell, Tandem Capital, Spindrift Equities, XN Ventures, Balius Partners and Hardware Club.
