Procreate 5X adds new features and deeper support for Apple Pencil

Procreate continues to bring new features to its exceptional iPad app.

What you need to know

  • Savage has announced Procreate 5X.
  • The new version brings new features for Apple Pencil and ARKit.
  • It will be available to users on Monday, September 21.

Today, Savage unveiled its latest update to its popular digital illustration app, Procreate 5X. The new update features "exclusive Pencil Filters along with additional new image Filters, FacePaint, Reference Companion, Selection Fill, Palette Capture, a new way to Transform and more."

Experience an entirely new way of applying image adjustments with Pencil Filters. Turn any brush into a filter that can be used to paint effects straight onto your canvas. The ability to adjust any effect after its been painted, coupled with the Apple Pencil's precise and tactile control makes Pencil Filters a major step forward for creative professionals.

The new version features a number of new updates for Pencil Filters, including Gradient Map and Chromatic Aberration.

Procreate 5X comes with a host of exciting new filters and adjustments that work with Pencil Filters. From the unique and multi-faceted Glitch, to the much requested Gradient Map and Chromatic Aberration, to powerful and flexible new Bloom, Halftone and improved Noise — all ideal for adding that perfect finishing touch.

The team is also launching a new feature called FacePaint that uses ARKit and Apple's Neural Engine to enable you to paint directly onto your face using the camera.

Harnessing the power of ARKit and Apple Neural Engine, FacePaint is a new, entertaining feature that allows anyone to paint directly onto their face. Seeing every stroke and action appear on your face in real-time is magical, with the full Procreate feature set, including Animation Assist and, even Time-lapse available.

Another interesting feature called Palette Capture will allow users to use their iPad's camera to capture colors around them and use those colors in the app.

Capture the colors around you using the iPad camera with Palette Capture, or from any image in your Photos app. Now with SwatchDrop you can color artworks from palettes by simply dragging swatches right onto the canvas, like ColorDrop. Procreate 5X now supports the importation of Adobe® ACO and ASE color palettes.

The new update also brings a host of new feature to Transform functionality.

Free yourself from the limitations of traditional Transforming with the agile new Bounding Box Adjust. Now you can rotate the bounding box around an object to scale and stretch it from any orientation. This feels so natural it's a wonder Transform hasn't always been this way. The addition of Snapping, Numeric Input and a Scale Readout makes Transform a more accurate and enjoyable experience.

Procreate 5X also brings full support for iPadOS 14, including advanced support for Apple's new Scribble feature and widgets for the iPad home screen.

With a lineup of unique features, tools and improvements only possible in Procreate, Procreate 5X caps it off with full iPadOS 14 integration. Now you'll never have to put down your Apple Pencil as you seamlessly edit text and change settings on the fly with advanced Scribble integration. And instantly jump back to where you left off with customizable widgets on your iPad home screen.

Procreate 5X will be available for users on Monday, September 21. It will be released as a free update for all existing users or, for those who are new, available for purchase on the App Store for $9.99.

YouTube reserving Picture in Picture on the iPhone for Premium subscribers

Only YouTube Premium subscribers get to enjoy Picture in Picture on the iPhone.

What you need to know

  • YouTube has removed Picture in Picture support for most users in iOS 14.
  • It seems to only be working in Safari for YouTube Premium subscribers.
  • There are still some workarounds for the rest of us.

Reported by MacRumors, it appears that YouTube's support for Picture in Picture on the iPhone is being reserved for YouTube premium subscribers. While some users thought that the lack of support in iOS 14 may have been a bug, it appears that the move to turn it off is intentional.

Picture in Picture appears to work on the mobile YouTube website in Safari for those who are YouTube Premium subscribers, which suggests that the restriction is intentional and not a bug.

For YouTube Premium subscribers, the YouTube app on the iPhone still does not support Picture in Picture in iOS 14, but users can get it working through the Safari app. That workaround had been working for all users prior to the release of iOS 14 on Wednesday, but it appears that it is now only working for Premium subscribers.

The YouTube app doesn't support Picture in Picture, but up until yesterday there was a functional workaround that allowed videos from YouTube.com to be watched in Safari in Picture in Picture mode. As of today, that workaround is gone, and it's not clear if it's a bug or a deliberate removal. Attempting to use Picture in Picture on a video on the mobile YouTube website simply doesn't work. Tapping the Picture in Picture button when in full screen mode pops the video out for a second, but it immediately pops back into the website, so it can't be used as a Picture in Picture window.

There are still some workarounds for non-Premium YouTube users. According to the report, you are able to get Picture in Picture working when playing a YouTube video that is embedded on a third-party website. You can also get it working by requesting the desktop site on the iPhone.

Picture in Picture works with YouTube.com on the iPad, and YouTube videos embedded on third-party sites such as MacRumors.com appear to be able to play in Picture in Picture mode, but Picture in Picture is not functioning on the YouTube website. For now, Picture in Picture is no longer working with the mobile YouTube website, but there is another workaround. If you request desktop site on YouTube.com in Safari, you can get Picture in Picture to work as intended.

This isn't the only issue YouTube is having with Apple's new software. It has also been revealed that YouTube on the Apple TV is still missing 4K playback on tvOS 14.

How to take on Zapdos in Pokémon Go

Zapdos is coming back to Legendary Raids in Pokémon Go. Although this Legendary Pokémon has been available many times over and in a number of ways, this will be the first time Trainers can challenge the storm bird with Mega Evolved Pokémon. How will Mega Evolution impact this battle? Read ahead to find out!

Who is Zapdos Pokémon Go?

One of the Legendary birds from the Gen I Kanto Region, Zapdos is the second Legendary Pokémon in the National Pokédex, as well as the mascot for Team Instinct. Along with Articuno and Moltres, these three bird are elemental forces of nature that can only be tamed by Lugia. Zapdos is also one of the only Pokémon with a regional variant. We'll be encountering the original Zapdos in Pokémon Go this time, for one week only.

What are the best counters for Zapdos in Pokémon Go?

An Electric and Flying type, Zapdos is capable of dealing Electric, Rock, and Flying type damage. It takes double damage from Rock and Ice type attacks.

Rhyperior

Beat only by Shadow Tyranitar, Rhyperior is the top non-Shadow counter for Zapdos. Rhyperior is final evolution of the Gen I Pokémon, Rhyhorn and the star of a Community Day, so most players have at least one already powered up. It takes quarter damage from Zapdos' Electric type attacks and half damage from its Rock and Flying attacks thanks to its Ground and Rock typing. If you're bringing Rhyperior to this Raid, you'll want it to know Smack Down and Rock Wrecker; however, if you don't have the Community Day exclusive move or the Elite TM to spare, Stone Edge also works well.

Mamoswine

Mamoswine is the final evolution of Swinub. It requires a lot of candy and a Sinnoh Stone to full evolve, but having been featured in events and a Community Day, many Trainers have a few already powered up. As a Ground and Ice type, Mamoswine takes quarter damage from Zapdos' Electric type attacks. You'll want your Mamoswine to know Powder Snow and Avalanche for this Raid.

Rampardos

Rampardos is a Rock type fossil Pokémon from the Gen IV Sinnoh region. It takes half damage from Zapdos' Drill Peck, and has no relevant weaknesses Zapdos can exploit. Having been featured in events and eggs, and only requiring 50 Candies to evolve, many players have a couple already powered up. If you're bringing Rampardos to this Raid, the moveset you're looking for is Smack Down and Rock Slide.

Terrakion

One of the Legendary Swords of Justice, Terrakion is a Rock and Fighting type that works very well in this Raid. It takes half damage from Ancient Power and has no weaknesses Zapdos can exploit. Although Terrakion is a Legendary Pokémon, it has been available multiple times so many Trainers have at least one. If you're bringing it to this Raid, you'll want Smack Down for the fast move and Rock Slide for the charged move.

Mega Charizard X

Although Mega Charizard X cannot take advantage of Zapdos' weaknesses, as a Fire and Dragon type it takes half damage from Electric type attacks. On top of the massive stat boost Mega Evolution grants, Mega Charizard X makes an excellent choice for this Raid. You'll want to be careful of the moveset because it takes double damage from Ancient Power and the cost of Mega Evolution makes it less than ideal, but if you already had one Mega Evolved, you'll want Fire Spin and Blast Burn for this fight.

Galarian Darmanitan

The Galarian variant of Gen V's Darmanitan, Galarian Darmanitan is one of the best Ice types in Pokémon Go. It takes double damage from Ancient Power, but otherwise holds up very well against Zapdos. Although neither version of Darumaka has been in the game for long, they're relatively easy to come by, so many players already have both versions. If you're bringing a Galarian Darmanitan to this Raid, you'll want Ice Fang and Avalanche for the moveset.

Tyranitar

The pseudo-Legendary Rock and Dark type of Gen II, Tyranitar remains one of the most accessible and useful Pokémon in Go. It's been featured in Raids, events, a Community Day and even as a Shadow Pokémon, so most high level players have an entire team of Tyranitar. It resists Drill Peck and takes normal damage from Zapdos' Electric and Rock type moves. Smack Down and Stone Edge are the moves you'll want.

Glaceon

The Ice type Eeveelution originally encountered in the Sinnoh Region, Glaceon is extremely easy to acquire and power up. Although you need to spin a stop with a Glacial lure Mod to evolve Glaceon, you can evolve as many as you want while the mod is active and most players have a ton of extra Eevee Candy for powering up. You'll want to watch out for Ancient Power which will make quick work of Glaceon, but against Electric or Flying type moves, it performs admirably. Ice Shard and Avalanche is the moveset you want.

Mewtwo

Boasting incredible stats and a plethora of move types, the Legedary Mewtwo of Gen I's Kanto region is often at the top of counter lists. It brings no weaknesses or resistances of note to this Raid and it won't get STAB for Ice Beam, but it still performs well enough to make our top ten non-Shadow counters. Even better, it has a Shadow forme, as well as having been available numerous times in numerous ways. Psycho Cut is marginally better than Confusion for the fast attack, but both work well with Ice Beam to do Ice type damage without the weakness to Ancient Power.

Weavile

The final evolution of Sneasal, Weavile is an Ice and Dark type Pokémon originally encountered in the Sinnoh region. Although it requires a Sinnoh Stone to evolve, because Sneasal are common and have been featured in multiple events, many players not only have Weavile but plenty of Candy to power them up. As with other Ice types, you'll want to avoid using Weavile if Zapdos knows Ancient Power, but otherwise, with Ice Shard and Avalanche, it will perform well in this Raid.

Back ups?

  • Mega Beedrill with Poison Jab and Slidge Bomb
  • Gigalith with Smack Down and Rock Slide
  • Landorus with Rock Throw and Rock Slide
  • Regigigas with Hidden Power and Giga Impact
  • Golem (Kantonian or Alolan) with Rock Throw and Stone Edge
  • Kyurem with Dragon Breath and Blizzard
  • Reshiram with Fire Fang and Stone Edge

Shadow Pokémon?

The rebalance of Shadow Pokémon rescued from Team GO Rocket make them excellent glass cannons. Not only are their stats boosted, but during special events, it's possible to change their moves. If you happen to have any of the following Pokémon with the right moveset, they will work very well in this Raid:

Note: Shadow Tyranitar outperforms all of the best counters. Likewise, Shadow Mewtwo, Shadow Weavile, and Shadow Abomasnow all perform at the same level as the Pokémon in the best counters list.

How many players does it take to beat Zapdos in Pokémon Go?

Although it is technically possible for three Trainers with top counters to take on Zapdos alone, you may need four or five if you're lower level or missing the top counters. Weather Conditions that could play into this battle include:

  • Rain will boost Zapdos' Electric type attacks.
  • Partially Cloudy weather will boost Zapdos' Ancient Power, as well as your Rock type counters.
  • Windy weather will boost Zapdos' Drill Peck
  • Snow will boost your Ice type counters.

YouTube on the Apple TV is still missing 4K playback on tvOS 14

We're all still waiting to play YouTube in 4K on our Apple TV 4K.

What you need to know

  • 4K playback support for the YouTube app on the Apple TV 4K is still missing.
  • Apple has and is advertising the feature on its tvOS 14 website.
  • The YouTube support team says support for 4K playback is coming "soon."

Reported by MacRumors, one of the most anticipated updates for tvOS 14 has yet to show up even after the new update rolled out to customers on Wednesday.

On Apple's own tvOS 14 website, the company listed that the YouTube app would finally support 4K playback on the Apple TV. However, as many users have found out, 4K playback is still missing from the YouTube app on the Apple TV even after tvOS14's release.

Selecting a 4K video on a 4K Apple TV upgraded to tvOS 14 limits the video playback to 1080p, which is the same playback quality that was available before.

According to some users who have posted complaints about the feature missing to Twitter, 4K playback was working on some of the tvOS 14 betas, though support seems to have varied from user to user.

It's not clear what's going on, but there have been many upset Apple TV owners complaining on Twitter. Some users have said that 4K playback was working as expected with YouTube during some of the betas, but functionality was erratic, so perhaps there are bugs that need to be worked out.

The Team YouTube support Twitter account has responded to one user saying that support for 4K playback on the Apple TV 4K will be coming "soon."

It is currently not clear if the lack of 4K support for the YouTube app is due to a bug in tvOS 14 or if YouTube has yet to add support for the feature that will come in a future update.

All current Raid Bosses in Pokémon Go September 2020

Here's every Pokémon you can challenge in Pokémon Go Raids in September 2020.

Pokémon Go Gyms do more than just house your Blissey and Slaking until a rival team paints it a new color. Gyms are also the host of Raid Battles where you and up to 19 other players can battle massive versions of specific Pokémon for the chance to catch one. While some of the Raid bosses are common and weak, Raids are also one of few ways to encounter Legendary Pokémon.

Which Pokémon, you ask? Well, the line-up changes pretty often. Each new event brings new and different Raid Bosses, and sometimes Niantic changes them up just for fun. Lucky for you, we've got the whole list right here, and we'll keep it updated for you too!

  • Note: Any Pokémon with the potential to be Shiny is indicated by an asterisk.

Mega Raids in Pokémon Go

On August 27, 2020, Niantic introduced Mega Evolution and with it Mega Raids. Mega Raids are a class unto themselves, providing some of the most challenging battles yet. Mega Pokémon get a massive stat boost, and in some cases new typing as well. There are currently five Mega Raids::

After completing any of these Mega Raids, you will be rewarded with the chance to catch the normal version of that Pokémon, as well as a bunch of Mega Energy - the species specific currency used to Mega Evolve your own Pokémon. The amount of Mega Energy you win is based on how quickly you can complete the Mega Raid so you want to invite as many people as possible to these Raids.

Five Star Raids in Pokémon Go

The Five Star tier is typically reserved for Legendary Pokémon and usually the most sought after of public Raids. They're more difficult to beat than lower star ratings, but if you have enough players to do it, the rewards at this level are the best. The current Five Star Raid Boss is Articuno*. Zapdos* will be taking its place on September 25.

Three Star Raids in Pokémon Go

Three Star Raids are fairly easy to take down, and many high-level players can do them with just one or two buddies. Still, they're worth a decent chunk of XP and other rewards. The current line up of Three Star Raid Bosses include:

  • Alolan Marowak* (1 top level Trainer or 2 lower level Trainers)
  • Golem (1 Trainer)
  • Rhydon (1 Trainer)
  • Jolteon (2 Trainers)
  • Aerodactyl* (1 top level Trainer or 2 lower level Trainers)
  • Piloswine (1 Trainer)
  • Aggron (1 top level Trainer or 2 lower level Trainers)
  • Walrein (1 top level Trainer or 2 lower level Trainers)

One Star Raids in Pokémon Go

Just about any player able to Raid can solo a One Star. These are all super easy and, unless this is one of your very first Raids, you'll spend more time waiting on the counter for the battle to start than you'll actually spend in the battle itself. However, if you need to complete a lot of Raids fast, these are the ones you want to aim for. Plus, they provide the easiest way to get some of the rarer first stage Pokémon.

  • Sneasal*
  • Alolan Vulpix*
  • Alolan Geodude*
  • Voltorb*
  • Omanyte*
  • Nosepass
  • Roggenrola*
  • Dwebble*

Raid Invitations and Remote Raids in Pokémon Go

As the global pandemic slowed Pokémon Go play and Raids in particular during the early part of 2020, Niantic began to implement new features to make Raids more accessible. Now Trainers can purchase Remote Raid Passes, which allow them to take part in Raids that aren't within range for a normal Raid Pass. These Remote Raid Passes will let you join in any Raid you can see on the screen. Additionally, Remote Raid Passes allow you to join into any Raid a Friend invites you to. Raid Invitations were added shortly after Remote Raid Passes, allowing Trainers to invite up to five of their Friends to join in a Raid from anywhere in the world.

EX Raids in Pokémon Go

An Exclusive or EX Raid is a special sort of Raid you can only participate in by invitation. Invitations are given to players who battle at EX eligible Gyms during a time of high traffic with some small bit of luck on top. Otherwise, invitations can be shared between Ultra and Best Friends. If you have a high-level friend who gets one, they can invite you to the EX Raid as well. The last EX Raid Boss was Regigigas, the leader of the Regi Titans Trio; however, Niantic has currently suspended EX Raids in the interests of public health concerns.

Four and Two Star Raids in Pokémon Go no more

Prior to Mega Raids being released, Pokémon Go had two other Raid types: Four Star Raids and Two Star Raids. Four Star Raids were combined with Three Star Raids, while Two Star Raids were combined with One Star Raids. The difficulty remained the same while increasing the rewards, making all of these battles more accessible.
