Rock on with Pearl Jam's 'Gigaton Visual Experience' for free on Apple TV

Pearl Jam fans have something new to do this weekend after the rock band announced that its "Gigaton Visual Experience" show would be available via Apple TV for free. But only for seven days – you'll need to pay to watch it after that.
As Apple Insider notes, the same show is set to appear at theaters, too. Or at least it was until all this – waves hands at the world – happened. Now it's appearing via the Apple TV and TV apps across all the usual platforms for free.
The music video project will "bring the album alive through immersive audio and ultra-vivid picture quality," the band said. Gigaton's producer, Josh Evans, added that it'll be "a unique way to experience this album."
So yeah, that's a thing that's happening this weekend.
Rockers can enjoy the full 57-minute "experience" in glorious 4K with Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision right now. Enjoy!

Apple's new thriller 'Defending Jacob' debuted its first three episodes on Apple TV+ today. To celebrate the release, Apple has posted a behind the scenes look at the series on its Apple TV YouTube channel.
The video, titled 'Book to Screen', brings the cast, crew, and author of the book together to talk about how the team brought the series from the page to the screen.
"The cast and crew of Defending Jacob along with author William Landay discuss bringing the best-selling book of the same name to the small screen. In this gripping, character-driven thriller, a shocking crime rocks a small Massachusetts town and one family in particular, forcing an assistant district attorney to choose between his sworn duty to uphold justice and his unconditional love for his son. Based on the 2012 New York Times best-selling novel of the same name, this limited drama series stars Chris Evans, Michelle Dockery, Jaeden Martell, Cherry Jones, Pablo Schreiber, Sakina Jaffrey, Betty Gabriel, and J.K. Simmons."
In the video, author William Landy talks about how executive producer Mark Bomback worked to ensure the series stayed true to the novel.
"The book grew out of my experiences as a prosecutor. Mark preserved the essence of the novel, which is this isn't a crime story about a family, this is a family story that happens to be about a crime."
Bomback says that the best part of being a screenwriter for him is taking the source material and figuring out the best cinematic way to tell a story.
"Bill's book, and the show even more so, really tries to explore how dark can you believe Jacob is and still hold on to this glimmer of hope that it's impossible he could've done this."

Facebook launches Messenger Rooms to compete with FaceTime and Zoom
Facebook is jumping into the group video calling game.
What you need to know
- Facebook has launched a competitor to Zoom and Group FaceTime.
- Messenger Rooms allows users to video call with up to fifty people.
- You can create and join rooms within the Facebook and Messenger app.
With many of us under stay at home orders, video calling has skyrocketed in popularity. Services like Zoom, FaceTime, and Skype have seen increases of millions of active users. It appears that Facebook wants to get into the game, specifically putting itself in place as a Zoom or Group FaceTime alternative.
Today, the company announced Messenger Rooms in a press release on its corporate website. Facebook says that Messenger Rooms "make it easy to spend quality time with friends, loved ones and people who share your interests."
Users will be able to create a room from within the Facebook or Messenger app and invite anyone to join the video call, even if they do not have a Facebook account. A room will eventually be able to support up to fifty people, but Facebook does not say exactly when.
"Host celebrations, gather a book club or just hang out on the couch with friends. You don't need to call someone and hope it's a good time or check everyone's calendar first. You can start and share rooms on Facebook through News Feed, Groups and Events, so it's easy for people to drop by. Soon we'll add ways to create rooms from Instagram Direct, WhatsApp and Portal, too."
Rooms that are open to you will appear at the top of the Facebook app, right above Facebook Stories. When you create a room, you will be able to set who is allowed to join the room.
Messenger Rooms is available in "some countries this week and will expand to the rest of the world in coming weeks."
The company is also expanding video call support to eight users at a time for WhatsApp. It is also bringing live video support for Instagram on the desktop. You can read about all of the new features in the press release.

Imran Chaudhri was on both the team that created the original iPhone and the team that created the original Apple Watch. While the designer has moved on from Apple to help found Humane, a mysterious company started by a number of former Apple executives, he celebrated the Apple Watch's fifth birthday by posting some fun facts about the device's creation on Twitter.

He posted another tweet talking about how the team created the butterfly watch face. According to Chaudhri, the face was created by Andrew Zuckerman, who photographed a butterfly who had passed.

Uber faces criticism for stopping food deliveries to low-income neighborhood in San Francisco

Uber has informed residents of San Francisco’s Treasure Island neighborhood it will no longer make Uber Eats deliveries to the area because of new city regulations temporarily capping delivery commissions.
Uber says the regulations limit the company’s “ability to cover operational costs.” But San Francisco Supervisor Matt Haney has criticized Uber for its approach, saying it’s cutting off service to a low-income neighborhood in retaliation for the city’s policy, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Amazon to impose new unpaid leave restrictions for warehouse workers starting May 1st

Amazon is changing its unpaid leave policies starting next month, according to a report from Bloomberg. On May 1st, hourly employees — a vast majority of which are among the company’s 250,000 or so warehouse workers who cannot work from home — must request an unpaid leave of absence to continue staying home if they do not want to work out of fear for their safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Throughout the coronavirus crisis, Amazon’s hourly workers in its fulfillment centers and warehouses have been able to stay home without pay and retain their jobs. For those who were reporting to work and became sick, or who came into contact with someone who tested positive for the virus, Amazon has been offering two weeks of paid time off.
