You can now buy the Claw that lets you mount your phone to Google’s Stadia controller

One of the novel ways you might want to play Stadia, Google’s cloud gaming service, is by connecting your Stadia Controller to a Pixel phone — but Google hasn’t had the accessories ready to make that an easy reality. Shortly before Stadia’s launch, the company mentioned that it was working on a small plastic attachment it called “the claw” that you could clip onto your controller to mount a phone and play your games. Now, a month after Stadia’s launch, the claw is listed for $14.99 on Power Support’s website. Even though the listing says the claw will be “available soon,” you can add it to your cart and buy it right now (via 9to5Google).

Today, Apple has announced that its anticipated comedy series from the minds behind "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia* will premiere exclusively on Apple TV Plus on February 7, 2020. The series, titled "Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet", is brought to life by Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day and will focus on a team of video game developers tasked with maintaining a popular video game.

"Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet" follows a team of video game developers as they navigate the challenges of running a popular video game. In addition to McElhenney, who stars as the fictional company's creative director, Ian Grimm, the ensemble cast also includes Academy Award-winner F. Murray Abraham, Danny Pudi, Imani Hakim, Charlotte Nicdao, David Hornsby, Ashly Burch and Jessie Ennis.

The show has an intense line of executive producers:

• Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day on behalf of RCG
• Michael Rotenberg and Nicholas Frenkel on behalf of 3Arts
• Jason Altman, Danielle Kreinik, and Gérard Guillemot for Ubisoft Film & Television
• David Hornsby ("It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia")
• Megan Ganz ("Modern Family," "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia")

The series is bring produced by the Lionsgate/3 Arts Entertainment venture and Ubisoft. The entire series will be available on launch day, providing viewers with nine, half-hour episodes.

Pornhub sheds light on 2019 Android stats that Google refuses to release

Pornhub has released its annual Year in Review blog, and it contains some noteworthy data about, of all things, Android OS usage statistics, as observed by Android Police.

The data is interesting because Google hasn’t updated its own dashboard of how many devices are on each version of Android since May, so for months, there haven’t been any public figures about the current state of Android OS adoption. And with Pornhub being one of the top 50 sites in global Alexa rankings, it’s somewhat plausible that its data is in the ballpark of 2019 Android OS usage.

If you’re thinking of buying a Ring camera for someone as a holiday gift, read Motherboard’s deeply unsettling coverage first. Maybe you’ve heard about the podcast where people spy on homeowners’ Ring and Nest cameras for laughs? Motherboard decided to test how easy it might be to access someone’s Ring devices specifically.

Their reporters found Ring has failed to put in place some basic security measures that could protect users’ privacy. I mean, if I log into Gmail from a new browser, I get a text message and two slightly panicky emails. Motherboard found that Ring doesn’t even do that much.

Warcraft III: Reforged will release on January 28, not in 2019

This week, game developer and publisher Blizzard Entertainment emailed customers who had pre-ordered its upcoming 4K remaster of strategy classic Warcraft III announcing that the game will become playable at 3am PST on January 28, 2020.

The game was previously slated for launch before the end of 2019, but players had begun to suspect some kind of delay when Blizzard didn't provide a firm release date for the game at its otherwise packed BlizzCon conference in early November. The company explained the short delay in a blog post, writing:

Though we've been working hard to get Reforged in your hands before the end of the year, as we started approaching the finish line, we felt we'd need a little extra development time for finishing touches. As always, our goal is to honor the high standards you hold us to.

As recent controversies over crunch in game development have made clear, making triple-A video games is complex and fraught with unexpected roadblocks and ever-shifting scope. Delays like this are common. Some excited players may be frustrated that they have to wait a little longer, but others will be happy to see a focus on quality or saner worker conditions for developers, whichever (if either) the case may be here.
