The App Store is expanding to twenty new countries starting next month

Today, Apple announced on its Developer website that the App Store will be expanding to twenty new countries starting next month.
Apple says that, to date, the App Store has generated over $155 billion in earnings for developers for apps that are currently available in up to 155 countries and regions. Now, developers will have a chance to expand their impact even further in twenty new markets.
"Thanks to the creativity and innovation of developers like you, the App Store has become much more than the world's safest marketplace. It's grown into a vibrant platform with great apps that influence culture and change lives, with over half a billion visitors each week. This wide-reaching platform has helped generate over $155 billion in developer earnings — just from sales of apps and in-app purchases. Today, the App Store gives you the opportunity to connect with users in 155 countries or regions. We're pleased to announce that the App Store will expand even farther this year with upcoming support for 20 new countries, allowing you to increase your impact and grow your business in new markets."
There are some steps that developers need to take in order to ensure their apps are available to users when the App Store launches in these new countries. Apple recommends that developers complete the necessary steps by April 10, 2020, in order for their apps to be available right away.
"To allow your app to appear in these new countries, your membership Account Holder first needs to accept the updated Program License Agreement by signing in to their account on the Apple Developer website. If you have a Paid Applications Agreement, the Account Holder will also need to accept this updated agreement in App Store Connect. You can then select the "New Countries or Regions" checkbox in the Pricing and Availability section of your app information page to automatically make your app available in all new countries. Completing these steps by April 10, 2020 will help make sure your app is ready to be published as content initially becomes available across new locations. We'll let you know when you can choose from specific new countries and update the default subscription pricing for these locations."
The countries that the App Store is starting to come to in the next month include Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Gabon, Georgia, Iraq, Lybia, Kosovo, Maldives, Montenegro, Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nauru, Rwanda, Serbia, Tonga, Vanuatu, and Zambia.

In order to keep both kids and adults occupied while many of us are staying at home for a while, Apple has just launched a new collection of free books and audiobooks through the Apple Books app.
The collection says that it contains "free books for everyone, from kids to adults". Some of the free titles include a collection of Sesame Street books, Apple's own books from its "Everyone Can Create" curriculum, picture books inspired by the documentary "The Elephant Queen", as well as some murder-mystery, romance, and read-along book. The company has also made a ton of first books that are part of a series free as well.
There are also a number of audiobooks that have been made available for free. Some of the titles include "Pride and Prejudice", "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz", "The Secret Garden", "The Time Machine", and "Winnie the Pooh". There are a number of additional children and adult audiobooks.
You can also browse the collection by genre, so whether you are a fan of mysteries and thrillers, romance, sci-fi, fantasy, or even graphic novels, you'll be able to find some free titles available to you.
You can find Apple's collection of free books and audiobooks in the Book Store section of the Apple Books app on iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Mac.

New Apple TV may have twice the amount of storage and a new 'Kids' mode

When Apple TV has been brought up lately, its mostly been to talk about Apple TV+ and all of the content rolling out on Apple's new streaming platform. However, we're finally starting to see some rumors about the next version of Apple TV and tvOS.
Reported by The Verifier, the next generation of Apple's streaming box may be getting a boost in its storage capacity. While the current generation of Apple TV 4K includes storage options of 32GB or 64GB, the next generation is apparently going to be doubled to 64GB and 128GB.
This move would not be surprising, as Apple currently requires users to download Apple Arcade games to the Apple TV to play. Increasing the storage would allow users to store more games on their Apple TV than ever, and for families, may be more of a necessity than a convenience.
The site also reports that Apple is building a new 'Kids' mode for tvOS that will allow parents to set up a separate user account for their children that they can have parental control over. Parents would be able to ensure their kids have access to appropriate content and apps, similar to the parental controls that currently exist on iOS.
Apple is also expected to bring Screen Time to tvOS. The feature, which tracks how much time you are spending on your Apple devices and allows you to set up restrictions, is currently on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, so it is natural that Apple TV would be next.
It is also rumored that Apple may be looking to bring its first design refresh to the Apple TV+ interface. Specific details are unknown, but the report says that the company is working on a "redesigned Apple TV+ with a greater focus on content".
As to when we can expect a new generation of Apple TV, the report says that it could come by the end of the year.

If you've ever been frustrated when you would buy an app on your iPhone and then realize you have to purchase it again on your Mac, you're not alone. Thankfully, that issue is coming to an end starting today.
Apple has just announced Universal Purchase for Mac Apps on its Developer website today. This means that, if an app developer chooses, they can offer their customers to buy their app just once and use it across all of the devices they've made it available for. For users, this means you can now buy an app once and use it on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Mac.
"The macOS version of your app can now be included in a universal purchase, allowing customers to enjoy your app and in‑app purchases across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS by purchasing only once. Get started by using a single bundle ID for your apps in Xcode and setting up your app record for universal purchase in App Store Connect."
Developers will need to do some work to get this up and running, but once it is done customers will be able to start enjoying the fact that, for the apps that offer it, they'll only have to buy it one time for use everywhere.
This has been a frustrating aspect of the Mac App Store, and the fact that Mac apps can now be included may breathe some new life into the store. We might find ourselves installing a lot more Mac apps than we thought now.
